Just joined BlogCatalog today and notice that there is a "Sponsor A Category" function for members who need more exposure for their blogs. Below is the direct content from BlogCatalog about the service:

This paid service will only cost members 5 buck per month and the interesting point is "top 5 positions of the category search results of your choice" - this mean that if members want to keep their position at the top 5 have to act fast to grap it. If the top 5 position were taken up members have to choose another choice. To me, this service will be cheaper and better than some paid textual ads service out there.
